Care Instructions: Oil Paintings

HANDLING OF OIL PAINTINGS
Please handle oil paintings with care. Keep the painting away from smoke, heat, flames, high humidity, extreme temperature fluctuations, and continuous exposure to UV light. Do not expose the painting to moisture or liquids. If the painting gets wet, wipe off excess moisture with a lint-free cloth, and let it air dry at room temperature. Please avoid touching the surface of oil paintings. To prevent injuries, as well as damage to the painting, it is recommended to wear gloves when handling art.

DISPLAYING
Oil paintings are meant to be displayed in indoor spaces with stable room temperature and humidity. To prevent damage or injury, please choose a display location and method, that prevents the painting from falling, as well as being accessed by small children and pets. Please confirm that all hooks, wires, and other hardware are stable enough to support the weight of the painting when hung. Please do not hang the painting on delicate wall surfaces, as it might leave behind scratches or stains.

TRANSPORTATION & STORAGE
Carefully wrap the painting in wax, glassine, or silicon release paper and ensure that the coated side of the paper is facing the surface of the painting. Then wrap the painting in a lint-free cloth or tissue paper and place it in a box or between two panels of cardboard. The box or cardboard can be wrapped in bubble wrap, to ensure protection during transport. Do not place textured materials (e.g. bubble wrap) directly onto the painting surface, since this may leave a permanent imprint on the paint film. Do not store oil paintings for a prolonged amount of time in dark, airtight, or unventilated spaces, as this might lead to yellowing.

CLEANING
For cleaning, carefully dust off the painting with a dry lint-free cloth. Please be careful not to apply too much pressure onto the painting surface, as this might lead to a dented or deformed canvas.

MAINTENANCE
Over the years, oil paintings might show signs of pollution and aging. In order to preserve the painting for future generations, it is recommended to have it cleaned by a professional art conservator. As part of the natural curing process, oil paintings might slightly yellow over time and develop cracks, called craquelure. These natural aging processes can be accelerated by environmental factors. It is recommended, that a professional art conservator conducts the maintenance and restoration of the painting if necessary. Please note that the artist is not responsible for the maintenance of the artwork and will not cover any costs for cleaning, repairs, restoration, insurance, or other.

Please note, that the artist is not responsible for any losses, damages, or injuries that occur from handling, displaying, cleaning, transporting, or storing the artwork.
